The world’s most populous country China will put the lives of more than 9,000 residents without their permamanet homes as more than 9,000 residents are expected to be relocated in other areas to give way for the ongoing construction of the world’s largest telescope as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
According to Xinhua News, the evacuation of thousands from the Guizhous province in southwest China was facilitated by a proposals of members of the Guizhou Provincial Committee on the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference last year for the “protection” of the Five-Hundred-Meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope or FAST.
CPPCC Guizhou Provincial Committee secretary general Li Yuecheng stated that the evacuation of residents was necessary “to create a sound electromagnetic wave environment.”
According to the Chinese national government, the construction will cost around 1.2 billion yuan and the construction started last March 2011 with an expected completion this coming September.
The FAST projec is eyeing to break the record of Puerto Rico’s 300-meter Arecibo Observatory as the world’s largest radio telescope.
