LTFRB Approved Petition for P6.50 PUJ Minimum Fare for Region VII

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced a 50-centavo provisional rollback in Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) minimum fares in Region 7. The fares in Region 7 for the first four kilometers will go down from P7 to P6.50 while the succeeding kilometers remain the same.

According to LTRFB, a “sustained drop” in the price of petroleum products was the main reason why they decided to implement the price drop in the minimum fares of PUJs in the Central Visayas region (Region 7). The provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor covers the entire Central Visayas region.

With the rollback, the discounted minimum PUJ fare for persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens and students in the region will also be reduced from P5.50 to P5.

LTFRB chair Winston Ginez cited the “sustained drop in the price of petroleum products” in the world market, and recommendations from the National Economic and Development Authority as he explained the rollback in the jeepney’s minimum fare in Region 7.

“The spate of reduction has resulted in further lowering the price of diesel fuel within the range of P19.72 to P2.40 which is significantly lower vis-à-vis the levels during the December 2014 and January 2015 periods,” Ginez said.
