China to Build Two Lighthouses in West PH Sea

Another action is expected to escalate tensions in a region, as China pushes plan to build two lighthouses in the disputed West Philippine Sea.

According to state media, China has already hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the two-multi-functional lighthouses on Calderon Reef and Mabini Reef on the disputed Spratly islands.

Beijing’s maritime ambition has been challenging the United States and the Philippines call for a freeze on construction activities on the disputed areas.

However, China’s ministry of Transport did not answer phone calls for comments.

Official said the lighthouses were built “to improve the navigation safety in the South China Sea”, however the official did not elaborate the explanation.

US is firm that China’s claim to the vast majority of the South China Sea is for the declaration of exclusion zone that could limit free movement of ships and aircraft.

The US earlier announced that it will be sending one of the powerful battleships to robe in Asia as the Philippine seeks “stronger commitment” from the United States to help its ally with activities in the South China Sea.
