DepEd Approves Tuition Fee Increase in 243 Schools

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 approves tuition fee increase in 243 private schools in seven regions in the Philippines for School year (SY) 2014-2015.

Based upon the partial data released by DepEd Cetral Office, 172 of these schools registered in the National Capital Region (NCR) have been given the go signal for tuition and other fees increase with percentage ranging from eight to nine percent.

According to Manila Bulletin, a total of 12 schools were approved by DepEd for its motion to increase tuition and fees out of 18 schools applied in Region II. In Region IV-B, 21 out of 40 schools were approved for increase.

The Department of Education also approved the application for tuition hike  coming from 11 schools in Yolanda-hit Region 8. DepED noted that Two in Region 13, two in Region 9 and 23 in Region 12 were approved for tuition increase.

Other schools were not granted for approval for failure to comply with the required documents for application but some are pending for authorization.

However, DepEd clarified that this is only a “partial list.” The Central Office is currently waiting for the official list of schools applied for tuition fee increase from other regional offices.

DepEd Central Office has yet to receive application in the following Regions; I, III, IV-A, V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XII, ARMM and CAR.

Last year, a total of 1,144 schools were approved for tuition and other fees increase with 1,335 applied.
