Megan Young: I Used to Think that Pageant is Superficial (Video)

After winning the Miss World 2013, Actress and host Megan Young can’t still believe that she made it to the finals and initially thought that beauty pageants were very superficial.

Young revealed and admitted in an interview on BBC World News TV as she talked about how it feels to carry the Philippine flag after winning Miss World 2013.

The actress said that it’s funny because she always told the people that she did think that pageants as very superficial and that’s the reason why she didn’t join the pageant before, even though people force and telling her to join, and Young asked before what are the things that  she will get whenever she  join and what would be her purpose in joining.

Young said that she have been hearing about it for a time and the fact that its main focus is charity, it means beauty with a purpose. It hit her. Then she knew that if maybe that was what she wanted, it wasn’t about the glitz and the glamour at all and concluded that it was more of how you were as a person.

Young said she maintained this stand until she came across Miss World, which she believes is a pageant with a cause.

For Young, her winning was very timely because it only showed what Filipinos can achieve amid the conflicts confronting the nation.

Young also added that it’s heartwarming because we’ve had a lot of issues going on for the past month back home, with tragedies that have been happening. For the actress to be that spark of hope and inspiration back home, for her to be able to uplift the spirits of her fellow Filipinos, is an honor.

And as she was declared as winner of Miss World 2013, Young said she is planning to reach out to less privileged people true to the real essence of Miss World.
