Fil-Ams for Philippine Baseball Team in the World Baseball Classic

After the Philippine Men’s Baseball Team have dominated the Southeast Asian Games Baseball competition, they are now eyeing for their toughest challenge as they will participate for the World Baseball Classic to be held in Taiwan next week.

The World Baseball Classic is considered as the Word Cup of Baseball which will test the Philippines dominance in the sports after they were declared as champions of the East Asia Games.

Although the team failed to secure the service of San Francisco Giants star pitcher and Cy Young awardee Tim Lincecum, the management is still confident with the boys who will be playing for their country with the support from Filipino-American professional baseball players.

The Philippine team will be bolstered for the first time by the best Filipino-American players in the world playing in the United States major and minor leagues.

Some of the most prominent Fil-Ams practicing for the Philippines were Geno Espineli of the San Francisco Giants, William Ireton of EAS LA Dodgers, Edwin Jimenez and Jonathan laygo of the Fresno White Sox, Devon Bryce Ramirez of the California State Dominguez, Andrez Vasquez of Rutger University and Ryan Pineda of the Stockton Ports.

There will be a total of 11 Filipino-Americans, one Filipino-Japanese and 16 homegrown Filipinos in the squad.
