Smart Gilas vs. Japan Score 83-76 Replay and Highlights Video

Philippines vs. Japan 2011 FIBA Asia
Marcus Douthit Against Japan

Poor free throw shooting from the undefeated Japanese Team was one of the factor why they suffered their first defeat against the more aggressive Philippine National Basketball Team Smart Gilas Pilipinas with the final score at 83-76. Japan’s leading scorer and one of the tournaments most feared outside shooter had been contained by the Filipinos.

Marcus Douthit of Smart Gilas had a monster performance against the Japanese, he had collected game highs statistics with 25 points and 18 boards. He was a force to be reckoned with by the Japanese inside players. The contribution he had made had just proved that he is indeed the missing link of the Philippine’s team quest for Asian basketball supremacy.

Japan’s leading scorer and one of tournament’s most recognized player was Takuya Kawamura, the focus of the Philippine’s tight outside defense which had been proven effective. The sharpshooter Japanese had contributed only with 12 points.

Top scoring for the Smart Gilas were Douthit with 25, Jimmy Alapag and Marcio L(–foul word(s) removed–)iter had 15 apiece together with Kelly Williams who had contributed also with 12 points aside from his inside defense.

Meanwhile the Japanese had relied on Joji Takeuchi with 22 points, Takeki Shonaka added 14 points, Kenta Herosi had 12 points and Takuya Kawamura with 12 points for their first ever loss of the tournament.
