Netizens Call Out MTRCB to Do Action Against Film of Darryl Yap
Several netizens called out the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to take action against the film of director Darryl Yap.
Many netizens requested the MTRCB to likewise ‘block’ Darryl Yap’s upcoming film ‘Martyr or Murderer’. This came on the heels of the MTRCB’s announcement that they were planning to prohibit Gerard Butler’s film ‘Plane’ in the Philippines due to its content.
The MTRCB announcement was posted on the Facebook page ‘Lalaban Tayo,’ and a comment from a netizen urged that Yap’s film be banned from theaters as well. Several netizens have accused Yap of disseminating historical falsehoods in order to clean up the Marcos family’s image.
“Samantalang ‘yung puro pelikula ni Darryl Yap na puro kasinungalingan ayaw i-ban,” the netizen said.
Several fans came to the director’s aid and defended him, claiming that his works were supported by documentation. The MTRCB has yet to respond to several netizens’ requests.
Yap also blasted VIVA’s decision to remove portions of his film from their website last week. The aforementioned film, distributed by Viva Films, is the second episode in Direk Darryl’s trilogy depicting the Marcos family’s existence. The first, Maid in Malacanang, was released last year and received worldwide acclaim.
Meanwhile, Senator Robin Padilla spoke out against the film “Plane,” starring Gerard Butler. The actor-public servant notably complained about sequences depicting bad and frightening pictures of the country, which he described as worrisome.
