VIDEO OF DOG HOWLING – A short clip of a dog howling loudly just right before an earthquake hit Turkey went viral on online platforms.

Among the many kinds of animals, dogs are among those that are closest to the people. Most households across the globe have at least one (1) dog. They come in different breeds. Although they cannot speak, they are regarded as the animal that has an emotional connection with their humans – they can both play and get mad at people.

There are also claims that animals can detect natural incidents way before humans can. Recently, on online platforms like TikTok, a video of a dog howling went viral. Based on the post of TikTok user @straybeautiful, the said video was taken before an earthquake – the dog seemingly warns the people.

The video was reportedly taken in Turkey which was recently hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake along with Syria. The strong quake brought buildings down and caused massive deaths. The Turkey-Syria earthquake deaths has surpassed 17,500.

It has long been a theory that animals including dogs can detect natural incidents like earthquakes even before humans can sense it. Based on The Washington Post, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) claim that the Primary or P, the first waves emitted from a quake, are more noticeable to animals thus abnormal animal behavior in seconds prior to a quake. The P waves are then followed by the S waves which shake the ground.

Furthermore, based on the article, the USGS cited that only a few humans can detect the P waves but animals are keen to it. Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior Director Martin Wikelski also said that “we have a very good indication that animals really feel the precursors of earthquakes, and it’s not seismic activity”.
