Bail Grant to Vhong Navarro Challenged by Camp of Deniece Cornejo
VHONG NAVARRO – The camp of the Showtime Host reacted to the motion filed by the camp of Denience Cornejo pushing for the reversal of bail grant.
A few days before Christmas, Vhong and his family were filled with joy when the Court released its decision over their appeal for bail. Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) allowed the Showtime host to post bail at P1 million for his temporary liberty.
Vhong was detained for around two (2) months at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and a few weeks at Taguig City Jail due to the charges filed against him by model Deniece Cornejo. Their legal battle is still over their opposing claims during a condominium incident in 2014.
The camp of Vhong Navarro immediately posted bail for his temporary liberty. He was able to spend the holidays with his family and friends and many of his fans and supporters are looking forward to his return to It’s Showtime.
However, it seems that the temporary liberty obtained by Navarro is currently being challenged. Based on an article on Pep, the camp of Deniece Cornejo wants the Court to reverse its decision on the bail grant and release a new warrant of arrest against the Showtime host.
Cornejo’s camp filed a motion for reconsideration on the Court’s decision granting Navarro bail and they also want the judge handling the case to be inhibited. Her camp stressed they were not able to file their evidence on the set schedule. To this, the actor’s camp reacted.
Based on the article, the legal counsel of Vhong Navarro, lawyer Maggie Abraham-Garduque, told UNTV News and Rescue that they have proof that the defense was able to file formal offer of evidence. She stressed that it is the prosecution which has the burden of proof.
“At any rate, whether or not nakapag-submit ang defense is not material because in petition for bail, ang importante ay ang evidence ng prosecution,” the lawyer said.
Speaking to PEP Troika, Atty. Abraham-Garduque expressed that they are currently waiting for the notice of hearing and conformity of the Fiscal. According to her, they have received a hard copy of the motion but “under the rules, this should be considered as a mere scrap of paper”.
