Smuggled Cigarettes worth P1-M Discovered in Zamboanga Confiscated
Authorities seized P1 million worth of allegedly smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
In two separate operations, P1.8M worth of illegal cigarettes was seized, leading to the arrest of a suspect. Jonathan Delliva, 34, was named as the suspect, according to Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao.
In Barangay New Labangan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, Verceles claimed that the suspect was apprehended while unloading the contraband cigarettes from the vehicle. According to the report of PNA, Delliva was busted for having five large boxes and 95 reams of various kinds of contraband cigarettes.
The value of the illicit goods that were seized is P103,500.00. Col said in the interim. Director of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Alexander Lorenzo discovered 50 huge boxes of various sorts of illegal cigarettes in a warehouse in the city’s Barangay Kasanyangan, valued at P1,750,000.00.
The speed with which the suspects fled may have made the operative nearby aware of their existence. Delliva was expected to be escorted by the appropriate person while the recovered contraband was given to the BoC office for a correct determination.
