The people of Orange County were thrilled to be treated with hours-long of a special event – a very rare sighting of more than 50 sperm whales off the coast of Southern California.
The whales were seen playing with the dolphins off the waters of Laguna Beach on Monday, that is based on the Orange County Register‘s report. It is believed to be the largest pod of sperm whales to be ever spotted near the Southern California coast.
Watch the video below to witness this first ever sighting of its kind:
According to David Anderson, the operator of Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari sightseeing tour, the enormous sea mammals were dispersed over an area of up to three square miles before they came closer to the boat and protruded their heads out of the water.
While in the past they have been seen in the area hunting for squid, the reason why this large group of sperm whales showed up is still a mystery. We can only presume by how it appeared that these whales are there to have fun with the dolphins and entertain the whale watchers.
They were beautiful.
