Richard Gordon Commended for His Leadership in PH Red Cross
RICHARD GORDON – The former senator has been commended for his excellent leadership in the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
Richard Gordon, chairman and CEO of PRC, received a commendation from the regional director of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies for the Asia Pacific. Gordon received praise for the PRC’s “efficient and effective” distribution of funds to the nation’s weakest communities, based on their Facebook post.
“You know we are very lucky, you are very lucky, in the Philippines, you have one of the best Red Cross Societies in the whole world, and you have one of the best Red Cross Leaders in the whole world, Chairman Richard Gordon,” said IFRC’s Alexander Matheou during the typhoon “Odette” Recovery Operations in Surigao Del Norte and Dinagat Islands on September 15.
Up to P12.5 million in help was made available through the program for the typhoon “Odette” victims in San Benito, Siargao Island, Surigao City, and Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. According to the PRC, Matheou also thanked Gordon for overseeing the PRC’s reaction to disasters and humanitarian aid over the last 20 years.
The biggest humanitarian network in the world, the IFRC, supports Red Cross and Red Crescent operations locally in more than 192 nations. The two humanitarian organizations, along with the German Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, Dutch Red Cross, and the European Union, continue to offer families affected by Typhoons “Odette” and “Agathon” cash aid and housing tool kits.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Peace and Development Project is another initiative of these groups that provide financial assistance to families affected by the region’s military conflicts. These organizations are a part of the PRC, IFRC, and other Red Cross networks that are collaborating to give P455 million in help to disaster and armed conflict victims nationwide.
