Erwin Tulfo said it’s an advantage having other family members in public service
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo was asked about the “Tulfo Dynasty” in politics.
From being a news anchor, Tulfo is now being part of the government after he was appointed by President Bongbong Marcos as the Social Welfare secretary.
His brother, Raffy Tulfo was elected as Senator and his wife Jocelyn is a representative of the ACT-CIS party-list in the House of Representatives. Their son Ralph is the representative of Quezon City’s second district.
Based on the report from GMA News Online, during the latest episode of The Mangahas Interviews, Sec. Erwin Tulfo said that having other Tulfos in public service is a plus factor.
“I’m not sure kung anong plans of my siblings and my other relatives pero ‘yung plus factor, kung marami ho sila sa politika, it’s a big factor,” the Secretary said as he cited an example featuring his proposal to increase the social pension of indigent senior citizens to P1,500 a month.
He said that his sister-in-law who is in the ACT-CIS Party List now and his nephew Ralph will both help him filing the bill.
“Hahabulin po ng mga kaalyado ko, ‘yung ACT-CIS na kung puwedeng gawing P1,500 ang social pension ng mga senior citizens. And then siyempre bubulungan na rin po natin si Senator Raffy na matulungan kami para maiangat ang amount ng social pension fund ng senior citizens,” Sec. Tulfo explained.
When asked if there is an emerging Tulfo Dynasty in politics in the Philippines, the appointee of PBBM said that he has no plans of running for any position. He also said that he has no idea about the future plans of his siblings.
Sec. Erwin Tulfo stressed that even in ACT-CIS, what he knew was that he is just an endorser and he just later on knew that he was the fourth nominee.
