Roque Says “Filipinos Worth Spending For” As Pharmally Overpricing Investigation Continues
FILIPINOS WORTH SPENDING FOR – According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the medical supplies the government got from Pharmally saved the lives of Filipino Health workers.
Despite the revelations and the facts presented by the Senate regarding suspicious activities from Pharmally, Roque defended the firm and its deal with the government. To him, the price the government paid for the supplies was worth it if it had saved even one Filipino life.
After granting Pharmally a P8.6 billion deal, the Senate pushed an investigation due to the firm merely having around P600K as capital. Furthermore, workers at Pharamally’s warehouse said they were told to change the dates of the medical supplies.
As a response to this issue, Roque said:
“Sinasabi nila pineke raw ‘yong date of manufacture. Kung totoo po ‘yon, talagang dapat panagutin. Pero hindi po ibig sabihin na ‘yong buong PPE na 9-piece ay naapektuhan ng face shield na ‘yon“
Moreover, Roque emphasized that the 9-piece PPE set that they procured had saved the lives of countless medical frontliners. “Kung hindi po natin ‘yan binili, mas marami sanang health workers ang nasawi dahil sa COVID“
Afterward, he highlighted that even one life saved from the Pharmally deal was “well worth it” because the “Filipino is worth spending for”.
Currently, the probe into Pharmally’s “overpriced” medical supplies continues. However, executives such as Lincoln Ong may not cooperate with the Senate. Additionally, the President’s continued attacks against the probe itself may put a dent in the entire investigation.
