Seungri Sentenced to 3 Years Imprisonment for Organizing Prostitution
SEUNGRI – Former member of Korean-pop boy band BigBang sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment for allegedly organizing prostitution.
According to the article, the Korean pop artist was fined one million dollars for allegedly organizing prostitution, more than two years after sexual assault charges shocked the country. The Military Court of South Korea confirmed his arrest once sufficient evidence was discovered.
Evidence suggests that Seungri, whose actual name is Lee Seung-Hyun, arranged for obscene services to be provided to businessmen who invested in his nightclub. The 30-year-old former star also took money from clubs to gamble in Las Vegas, according to the presiding judge.

The case was handled in a military court in Yongin, Seoul, South Korea since Seungri was enlisted personnel last year. Due to the fact that Seungri was undertaking military service, which is a necessary obligation for men in South Korea, legal proceedings were conducted by a military court.
According to Reuters, Lee, who appeared in uniform at the military court in Yongin, south of Seoul, shook his head as he listened to the sentencing, which included a fine of 1.15 billion won ($990,000). The majority of the charges, however, were refuted by Lee, according to the article.
The indictment and sentence of Seungri were part of the bigger “Burning Sun” incident, which involved a nightclub in Seoul’s posh Gangnam neighborhood. Seungri was a member of the club’s board of directors and was in charge of its public relations.
Bribery, violence against clients, arranging prostitutes for VIPs, harassment, drug trafficking, and drug use were all reported by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department. Several women have come forward to say they were sexually abused or drugged at the club.
Seungri rose to prominence as a member of the K-pop group BigBang, which has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide. He was one of K-top pop’s singers until he abruptly left the industry in March 2019 after it was revealed that he was being investigated for the charges indicated above.
