SM Supermalls Keeps Essential Stores Open Amid Metro Manila Lockdown
SM Supermalls have suspended their operations except for essential stores amid the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila.
On Friday (August 6, 2021), the National Capital Region has started to implement the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila. Stricter rules and regulations have been imposed throughout the borders.
Only Authorized persons outside residence (APOR) are allowed to pass through borders but they still need to present the necessary documents. Travelers with no documents are requested to turn back.
The recent ECQ is the third round of hard lockdown in Metro Manila since the COVID-19 pandemic started. The latest ECQ has been declared due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 Delta variant inspection.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said that the recent implementation of ECQ is stricter compared to the previous lockdowns.
SM Supermalls announced on their Facebook page that they would temporarily suspend their operation due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) across Metro Manila.

However. The company said that essential stores including supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, hardware stores, and restaurants offering delivery services and take out will remain open to serve the Filipinos.
SM said that only essential stores will remain open from August 6 to August 20 and announced that customers could avail free parking during the lockdown period. The offer is only available in the aforementioned areas.
