Kidnapper Allegedly Member of Abu Sayyaf Group Nabbed in Zamboanga City

Authorities arrested a kidnapper allegedly linked to notorious rebel Abu Sayyaf Group during ang law enforcement operation. in Zamboanga City.

According to a Manila Bulletin article, a law enforcement operation based on intelligence reports led to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper linked to the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). Jasmin Amil was named as the suspect.

Amil is facing four counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges in a court in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte, according to Police Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, director of Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula).

At around 6 a.m., Amil was presented with an arrest warrant in Barangay Divisoria. Amil is said to have ties to Basilan and Sulu-based ASG bandits Roger Kalas, alias “Abu Anhar,” and Ibno Tabullo, alias “Caro.”

According to Ylagan, the three were involved in the following kidnappings in Sirawai: Rex Triplet in Barangay Tapayan on Sept. 16, 2020; Rufo and Ellen Roday in Barangay Piacan on Aug. 31, 2018.

On June 28, 2018, seven members of the Javier family were killed in Barangay San Nicolas; and on March 4, 2018, Jemar Duque, Roger Jung-an, Jojo Mantangan, and Raymond Purisima were killed in Barangay San Nicolas. Sirawai police have temporarily taken Amil into arrest.
