MMDA Hiring More Contact Tracers As COVID Spikes In Metro Manila

MMDA Hiring More Contact Tracers Due To Spike In Daily COVID-19 Cases In Metro

MMDA HIRING MORE CONTACT TRACERS – A year into the coronavirus pandemic in the Philippines, Metro Manila has yet again seen a surge in the number of daily cases.

Following the detection of “mutations of concern” such as the South African and UK COVID-19 strain, Metro Manila saw a significant increase in cases. As such, OCTA Research group warnes local officials that the surge may be caused by the new virus variants spreading.

The “mutations of concern” were both found to be more contagious than previous strands. Furthermore, researchers suggested that the strains may even be more resistant to existing COVID-19 vaccines.

Because of this, the Metro Manila Development Authority said they’d hire more contact tracers in a bid to contain the spread. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the MMDA said they would then deploy the newly hired across the Metro.

Meanwhile, due to the recent spike in cases, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said that Mayors of Manila agreed to postpone easing of the region’s quarantine level.

“Wag po muna dahil nakakabahala po, medyo alarming, halos dumodoble, wala pa hong 2 linggo”
