For the year 2020, Globe is planning to spend P50.3 billion in CAPEX. Along with this, a large portion of that budget would go into upgrading their networks.
Due to the shortening of issued permits, Globe had the opportunity to establish more cell towers across the country. According to an article from CNN, Globe was able to secure 715 permits to allow the telecom company to build more towers from Northern Luzon to Northeastern Mindanao.
Back in 2019, Globe allotted P51 billion in CAPEX to increase its network infrastructures. Along with this, the company built 139% more cell cites compared to 2018. Because of this, the number of 4G base stations of Globe increased by 28% more than in 2018.
As per the article, Gil Genio, chief technology and information officer of Globe stated:
While there are still gaps, the new network upgrades are designed to address these. We expect the improvements to continue moving into 2021 with bolder moves to provide 4G everywhere and connecting homes with high-speed fiber
Along with this, Globe subscribers also have something to look forward to in 2021. According to Globe, they plan to expand and focus on 4G/LTE for better mobile data experience. Additionally, Globe also planned to accelerate their Fiber to home connectivity.
