SAF Commandos to be deployed in Cebu City to help enforce lockdown protocols
Special Action Force (SAF) commandos of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deployed to assist the strict implementation of lockdown in Cebu City.
Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said Thursday that two companies of the elite PNP-SAF will help the implementation of quarantine protocols in the city of Cebu as cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) soar.
The deployment of the two SAF companies that include 150 personnel will help to prevent residents from leaving in their home, Eleazar said, based on the report of GMA News. He also said that multi-purpose armored vehicles will be also deployed in the city.
“Mobility assets of SAF will also be deployed in Cebu City that include multi-purpose armored vehicles similar to what we used in the implementation of ECQ in Metro Manila,” Eleazar said in a press statement.
“We have already coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces of the Philippines for the deployment of SAF personnel and their mobility assets.”

Eleazar said that the deployment of SAF has been proven effective in forcing Metro Manila residents to stay in their houses. He also added that SAF commandos are known to be strict when enforcing the quarantine rules.
“SAF commandos are known to be strict in enforcing the quarantine rules which subsequently compelled hardheaded residents to stay in their houses,” he said.
The military’s Central Command, under Lieutenant General Roberto Ancan, vowed to deploy more troops to the city as some of the soldiers were already deployed in some areas in Cebu City.
In addition, three senior officers from Philippine National Police’s Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Visayas and PNP Directorate for Operations will also be sent to Cebu City to facilitate coordination with the JTF COVID Shield and the PNP leadership on the ground.
