Fares Unchanged After Lockdown In Metro Manila Despite Social Distancing Measures
FARES UNCHANGED AFTER LOCKDOWN – According to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) commuter fares would not increase as lockdown eases.
As the aviation industry begins to restart, airlines announced that prices may increase due to social distancing protocols. Passengers would be required to be one seat apart from each other leaving the middle seat vacant.
A similar practice would also be imposed on commuter transportation in the metro when the lockdown begins to ease. However, prices would not increase according to LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra.

We don’t want to add burden to the commuting public at this point in time so LTFRB in consultation with DOTr, decided not to increase the fare for all types passport that will be allowed on the road
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Delgra said that special permits would be given to public utility vehicles that would be allowed operations. Moreover, these permits are given to ensure health protocols are being imposed.
The vehicles that would be prioritized are buses that could carry the most passengers. Following this, modern jeeps would be given permits, traditional jeeps, then vans.
Furthermore, Delgra, when asked whether or not tricycles would be allowed to operate, turned to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to give a response.
Meanwhile, the LTFRB Chairman emphasized that colorum or vehicles operating without a franchise would not be allowed to run.
Other suggestions for the return of public vehicles are the use of tap payment systems with conductors being armed with thermal scanners. Along with this, passengers are required to have masks when transportation resumes.
