Phivolcs Says Taal Volcano Is Recharging For Powerful Eruption
TAAL RECHARGING – According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), Taal Volcano recharging for a possible hazardous eruption.
Phivolcs gave an update and stated that the Volcano appeared to be swelling. In addition, a portion of it had sunk and the entire volcano island has slightly tilted.
Although the Volcano seemed to be in a state of calm, seismologists believe that the Volcano is resupplying Magma. Once that magma rises to the surface, it would be a strong indication of a power eruption.
Still, under alert level 4, Taal Volcano could still have a hazardous and destructive eruption within hours or days.
According to an article from Philstar, Phivolcs director Renato Solidum stated that the silent activity below the surface of Taal has altered the landscape of the volcano island.
He said that parts of the northeastern portion of the volcano had sunk while the entirety of the Volcano had swelled.
The island has slightly tilted while being pushed. Some portions in the northeastern side are sinking. Maybe the houses there are already under water
Phuvolcs volcano monitoring and eruption prediction chief Mariton Bornas explained that the swelling ground around the volcano indicates an accumulation of magma near the surface.
Amidst criticism from some politicians, Phivolcs were adamant that they had warned the public that Taal’s volcano island would be a permanent danger zone before January 12.
We have been warning for years that permanent settlement is prohibited on the island
If it reaches the crater, it could cause a strong explosion
