Farm Animals Left After Taal Eruption Struggling For Survival

ANIMALS LEFT AFTER TAAL ERUPTION – As residents evacuated areas near Taal Volcano’s danger zone, several of their farm animals were abandoned.

Left alone to fend for themselves, most of the farm animals could not survive for long in the harsh and ash-filled environment. Most of the fresh grass that was once abundant was not covered in blankets of ash.

Following this, Anna Cabrera, the executive director of Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), recounted her experience as she arrived at one of Taal’s coastal areas a day after the eruption.

Marami kaming nakitang mga baka na naiwanan, wala na silang access sa grass kasi natabunan na ng ash so nakakaawa talaga,

(We saw a lot of cows that were abandoned, they don’t have access to grass because it was covered in ash, those poor creatures).

After Taal Volcano’s eruption, nearby affected areas looked liked ghost towns. The once vibrant scenery became a vision of black and white as the ash covered almost everything in sight.

One of the videos posted by PAWS on their Facebook page saw chickens roaming around the ground looking for food. However, there was nothing to eat and volunteers had no choice but to feed them dog food.

Cabrera stated that the animals were not only the livelihood for the people, they were also treated as family members as well.

On their Facebook page, they posted ways on how you could help out animals abandoned in Taal.
