An ecological relationship is basically the relationship and the interaction between an organism and another in an ecosystem. It is categorized in to five, three of which has symbiosis or the close relationship of two organisms where one or both gain a benefit.

- Competition
- occurs when individuals or populations have a competition with one another for the same resource. This happens within or between species
- Predation
- refers to the consumption of one organism by a predating organism to gain nutrients. The eaten organism is called a prey
- Commensalism
- refers to the relationship where one organism benefits while the other organism is neither aided nor harmed
- Parasitism
- refers to the relationship where one organism benefits while the other organism is harmed but is usually not fatal. The organism who benefits is called a parasite.
- Mutualism
- occurs where two organisms of different species benefit. It comes in three forms:
