Driver Licenses At Around 50,000 Were Unclaimed At Manila Office
DRIVER LICENSES – The confiscated 50,000 driver licenses due to various violations remain unclaimed at the Manila government office.
According to ABS-CBN, some of these licenses were from the year 2014, as per a statement from a local official.
The Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau’s director Dennis Viaje said that their bureau is not linked to the electronic system of the Land Transportation Office, which created an advantage for misbehaving drivers to pretend that they lost the license rather than claiming it and face fines.
Viaje further cited one erring driver who executed an affidavit of loss for his license 12 times rather than face the fine.
Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno already signed an agreement with the Land Transportation Office to upload the database of the traffic bureau in which Viaje said that it will be done next year.
Meanwhile, the government made an amnesty program which would allow the drivers to get their licenses without any additional penalties.
As per the report, Viaje said that this is beneficiary to those who already made an affidavit of loss to get their license or they will find it hard to renew them once this has already been uploaded to the system.
