July 25 of Every Year Declared by President Duterte as National Campus Press Freedom Day

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the law declaring July 25 of every year as a National Campus Press Freedom Day.

Representatives Carlos Isagani Zarate of Bayan Muna and Ann Hofer of Zamboanga Sibugay. Outgoing Sen. and incoming Sorsogon Gov. Francis Joseph “Chiz” G. Escudero authored the House Bill 6024 seeking to declare July 25 of every year as a National Campus Press Freedom Day.

The bill aims to defend the interest and welfare of the Filipino people through the discussion of both national and sectoral issues. The law will also give a free and adequate venue for the discussion of student concerns.

Recently, President Duterte has signed the Republic Act Mo. 11440, which was passed by the House of Representative as House Bill No. 6024. The Republic Act Mo. 11440 is also known as “An Act Recognizing the Observance of July 25 of Every Year as the National Campus Press Freedom Day as an amendment to Senate Bill 747.

The law mandates all educational institutions to provide full support to the preparation of annual program and events to be conducted by the students.
