Nicanor Bartolome on NonDuty Status Ahead of MidTerm Elections

The PNP Director General Nicanor Bartolome made a positive response to the President Aquino’s plan to place him on nonduty status ahead of the midterm elections next year, although rule out immediate meeting between the two heads.

The President on his part who is currently in Laos for the Asia-Europe Meeting said he would ask Bartolome to retire early and go on non-duty status before yearend to allow his early replacement and smooth preparations for the May 2013 elections.

Bartolome will now have an option to retire on March 16, and will enjoy his retirement benefits.

Meanwhile Lacierda said he was not certain wether Deputy Director General Alan Purisima who was designated by Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II as head of the task force that would oversee the elections, would replace Bartolome but the President will have the final say.
