One of the famous boxer from the Philippines which was more popularly known on his monicker, “Pacman,” or the Congressman from the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao made the Filipino proud once again as he was named as “Fighter of the Decade” by the WBO.
The World Boxing Organization named the eight-times World Champion in different weight division was honored with the recent awards given to him.
The announcement was made during the first day of the WBO 25th Convention at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino.
Manny Pacquiao was given the rare distinction after he dominated the boxing scene for the past 10 years. He was able to dominate in 8 different weight division.
Last November 2009, Manny Pacquiao dominated Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico in the 12th round in Las Vegas. This will be the second time that Manny Pacquiao was named as Fighter of the Decade.
Last year, Manny Pacquiao was also named as “Fighter of the Decade” by the world’s most popular boxing governing body, the World Boxing Council or the WBC.
Other awardees of the WBO were fellow Filipino, Nonito Donaire as Fighter of the Year, Light Flyweight champion Yesica Bopp of Argentina was named as “Female Fighter of the Year” and Top Rank’s Bob Arum and Todd Duboef for “Promoter of the Year.”
