The Philippines secured a win against Chinese Taipei with the final score at 75-68 and clinched a semi-finals berth against powerhouse Iran who have easily defeated their opponent Uzbekistan in the first game of the Quarterfinals.
Smart Gilas Pilipinas got the second semi-final slot after they successfully duplicated their previous win against Chinese Taipei during the 34th Jones Cup held in Taiwan.
The Group A quarterfinalist was led by Lebanon, followed by the Philippines, China and Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan already bids goodbye in the competition and wait for their final placement.
China on the other hand have been surprised by Japan and was defeated by the home team and ended their quarterfinals journey. The most surprising won in the tournament came from Qatar who have defeated the Group A leading team Lebanon and will move on to the semi-finals against Japan.
The Philippine Team’s rest for the past two games proved useful on their win against Taiwan although the Taiwanese nearly made a comeback in the few remaining minutes of the match.
