CBCP Calls Comelec to Suspend Proclamation of Winning Candidates on May 2019 Polls
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) wants to suspend the proclamation of winning national candidates due to alleged irregularities.
NASSA executive secretary Father Edwin Gariguez urges the Commission on Election (Comelec) to delay the proclamation of winners for the national positions.
Gariguez is requesting an impartial investigation regarding the alleged manipulation of votes.
The Church executive also explained that he is not accusing Smartmatic and Comelec of cheating but he only wants the allegations of fraud to be validated or disproved.
“Ang aming kahilingan ay seryosohin yung allegation, actually hindi naman natin sinasabi direkta na may dayaan, merong allegations of fraud and manipulation so what we are requesting or demanding to do is to suspend the proclamation until these allegations have been validated or disproved,” Gariguez said.
The priest also denied that CBCP’s decision to call for a suspension is related to the loss of Otso Diretso senatorial candidates in the unofficial results of 2019 midterm elections.
CBCP is also one of the groups including other opposition groups that questioned the election results doubting the count’s credibility.
