DILG to file a case against ‘Ang Probinsyano’?
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is considering filing a case against Ang Probinsyano.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año initially expressed his dismay over the series’ way of portraying the image of PNP.
Though Año admitted that some policemen have flaws but Ang Probinsyano also has the “moral and ethical responsibilities in what they do.”
Previously, the government issue demanded the Kapamilya primetime action-drama series to change its plot.

DILG Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya stated that they “consider filing legal action and imposing sanctions including the prohibition on the use of PNP uniforms, properties and even using the acronym of the organization (PNP) if Ang Probinsyano continues with their grossly unfair and inaccurate portrayal of our police force.”
Furthermore, Malaya said that they could also file a case against the producer of the show.
This is in line with “illegal use of uniforms or insignia” based on Article 179 of Revised Penal Code, based on the article published in PEP.

“We are also looking at possible violations of the Children’s Television Act of 1997 because the show may have violated the National Council for Children’s Television standards for television programs that should be child-friendly,”Malaya added.
The Philippine National Police is under the office of the DILG Secretary.
Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe also reacted on this issue. She defended the TV series which is based on her father Fernando Poe Jr.’s movie.
Her mother, veteran actress Susan Roces, is also part of Ang Probinsyano.
Poe said that the show is a “fictional, modern-day retelling” of her father’s movie, based on the article.
She added that the redeeming value of the show should not be set aside because of the quality of entertainment it gives.
