Earthquake Shakes Surigao del Sur Town
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that an earthquake recently jolted a town in Surigao del Sur, August 15.
The Phivolcs reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 jolted a town in Surigao del Sur early Wednesday morning.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, Phivolcs reported that the epicenter of the quake was located at 25 kilometers northeast of Cortes town. It struck in the Pacific Ocean facing Surigao at 1:25 in the morning and it has a depth of 19 km.
The earthquake that jolted Surigao del Sur town had a tectonic origin. Phivolcs did not raise a tsunami alert and no damages caused by the quake was reported by the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council in the province.
Based on the report, Phivolcs also reported that a quake with a 2.4 magnitude jolted the same town and province at 1:52 in the morning, August 15. It has a depth of 17 km. A 2.5 magnitude quake with a depth of 14 km. was also recorded at 2:34 in the morning northeast of the said town.
