SC Approves New Ombudsman Samuel Martires’ Application for Early Retirement
MARTIRES – The Supreme Court approved the application for early retirement of Associate Justice Samuel Martires who was recently appointed as the new Ombudsman of the Philippines.
Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Martires was recently appointed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to replace former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales. Based on a report, the latter retired earlier last week.
Pres. Duterte revealed that he’s appointing the Associate Justice as the new Ombudsman during the 69th anniversary of Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Recently, based on a report, the ABS-CBN News got a feed from court insiders that the Supreme Court has granted Associate Justice Samuel Martires’ application for early retirement due to his new task as the Ombudsman of the country.
According to the report, Ombudsman Martires who has vowed to give priority to resolving cases and investigate corruption in his new office will have a 7-year term as the Ombudsman.
The other two candidates to replace former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales were private practitioner Felito Ramirez and Ombudsman Special Prosecutor Edilberto Sandoval.
Based on the report, former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez praises the move of Pres. Duterte with regards to the appointment on Ombudsman post. According to her, the new Ombudsman who has a clean reputation and “more than enough” experience in the judicial field will be an “effective” graft-buster.
