Thousands of Filipino devotees have gathered at the Quirino Grandstand for “Pahalik” a day before the Black Nazarene Traslacion 2018.
On Monday (January 08, 2017), thousands of Catholic believers and devotees have queue at the Quirino Grandstand for the traditional “Pahalik” of the Black Nazarene.
“Pahalik” is one of the activities held before the annual procession of the Black Nazarene. It has been already a part of the Filipino culture and tradition.
The devotees wearing maroon shirts fall in line just to touch and kiss the feet of the wooden image at the Quiapo Church, which they believed to be miraculous.
Around 10, 000 people are already gathered as early as 6 am for the tradition “Pahalik,” according to the National Capital Region Police.
The believers were only allowed to get near the Nazareno after the 7 am mass, unlike in previous years wherein the pahalik starts at 12 in the midnight.
The authorities formed three lines separating males, females, and senior citizens and persons with disability to manage the crowd.
The officials of the Quiapo Chuch said that they allowed the devotees to touch and kiss the Black Nazarene first because they will be busy starting today.
Meanwhile, there is still no inconvenient incident have been reported as of this writing. However, first aid stations are spread around the Quirino Grandstand in case of emergency.
