October 26 To Be Declared By President Duterte As Holiday
President Rodrigo Duterte will declare October 26, 2017, as a holiday in the province of Cebu to pay tribute to late Cardinal Vidal.
On Monday (October 23, 2017), President Duterte pronounced that he will declare Thursday (October 26) as a holiday in Cebu as a tribute to the death of Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
Mr.Duterte made his statement during his visit to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral to pay respect to the cardinal after joining the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, where a dance competition was held.
The president arrived at the mother parish of the Cebu Archdiocese around 12:04 am on Monday and sat beside Palma and Vidal’s surviving younger brother, Juanito spending 20 minutes at the wake.
The declaration of holiday and the executive order was set to be signed on Tuesday (October 24, 2017), as soon as President Duterte arrive in Manila, according to Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino.
Dino also sent a formal request to Malacañang Palace suggesting the declaration of October 26 as holiday honoring the late Cardinal Vidal.
“In light of requests by local government units in Cebu and the ardent desire of the Cebuanos, I have communicated to the Office of the President through the Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea our wish to have October 26 declared a holiday to honor (the late) Ricardo Cardinal Vidal,” said by Dino quoted by Manila Bulletin.
The wake of Cardinal Vidal will end on Wednesday evening (October 25, 2017) as Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral will be closed due to clean up and will reopen around 7 am on Thursday.
Those who will attend Vidal’s funeral mass are discouraged from bringing backpacks and bags to make the inspection easier and faster for everyone.
