Today (September 26, 2017), was exactly eight years ago since Typhoon Ondoy hits Luzon and causes devastation in different regions in the country.
Typhoon Ketsana or locally known as “Bagyong Ondoy” is one of the strongest tropical storms to hit the country leaving 464 fatalities and damages worth of P11 billion.
More than 4.9 million people in the Philippines were severely affected by the tropical storm. It also causes damages in several infrastructures and agricultural areas after it 13-hour straight unleashing torrential rains.
Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Northern Quezon, Polilio Island, Metro Manila, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Mindoro Provinces, Lubang Island, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Isabela, Mt. Province, Ifugao, and Southern Quezon were the provinces affected by the typhoon.
Bagyong Ondoy also causes heavy flooding in various regions in the country including Camarines Norte, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna, and Rizal due to heavy rainfall.
The unexpected landfall of Typhoon Ketsana leads to numerous death and destruction of property.
The Philippine government asked financial assistance from the international community and United Nations for the victims of the violent typhoon.
However, the Filipino people have already recovered from the painful memory caused by “Ondoy” and they take it as a lesson to prepare ahead of any impending disasters.
