Military Troops Says 2 Indonesia Nationals Escape From Abu Sayyaf Members After 10 Months Of Captivity
The Philippine troops recovered two Indonesian nationals who were able to escape from the Abu Sayyaf extremists after 10 months of captivity.
On Thursday (September 07, 2017), Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said that the military troops intercepted two men on a vehicle in Indanan town in southern Sulu province. The two men have no injuries but immediately rushed to the hospital for medical examination.
The men were identified was Sarapuddin Koni and Sawal Maryam, who were Indonesian boat crewmen. They were abducted last November 19, 2016, in the waters of Sabah, Malaysia.
Sobejana said that the escape of the Indonesian nationals was still unclarified, but it happens after soldiers have an encounter with about 20 Abu Sayyaf members in Talipao, a town in Sulu.
The clash between the two groups took the lives of at least 5 militants and injured 5 members of the military troops.
Abu Sayyaf is a terrorist group, which was known for bombings, beheadings, and ransom kidnappings who were still holding 17 hostages in the province of Sulu.
“Abu Sayyaf gunmen are still holding 17 hostages in Sulu province, 13 of them foreigners — a Dutch, seven Vietnamese and 5 Indonesians,” said by Sobejano quoted by Philstar.
