A critically endangered sea creature Irrawaddy dolphin was found dead by the residents of Malampaya Sound in the province of Palawan.

On Wednesday (September 06, 2017), the residents of Malampaya Sound in the province of Palawan found a dead Irrawaddy dolphin with a net wrapped around its tail, which is already a critically endangered.

The net wrapped around the tail of the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin was alleged the primary cause of death of the sea mammal.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also considers the Malampaya Sound as a protected area. There are several Irrawaddy dolphins were already living in Malampaya Sound, a sanctuary that is taking care of some critically endangered marine species.

In 2002, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) stated that there are only 42 Irrawaddy dolphins are remaining in Malampaya Protected Area.

Meanwhile, DENR will conduct an investigation regarding the death of the critically endangered dolphin species.
