The unidentified man has earned the nickname “Batman of Lagos de Moreno” because of his unusual actions against crime in the area. The incident reportedly took place in Lagos de Moreno, a city in the state of Jalisco.
Over a period of about 10 days, at least five men were found duct-taped to lampposts in different parts of the city. Authorities said the first known case was recorded on June 13. The viral photos showed some of the men tied up and unable to move.
Some of them also had markings on their faces, including mustaches, cat whiskers, and the Spanish word for thief written on their foreheads. In some cases, motorcycles believed to be connected to the alleged thefts were left beside the men.
One photo that gained attention online showed two men taped back-to-back to a pole with a motorcycle parked in front of them. The incident leads many residents to talk about the mysterious figure behind the incidents.
While some people praised the vigilante for taking action against suspected criminals, authorities stressed that the situation remains under investigation. Police officials explained that regardless of the accusations against the men, they are being treated as victims in these cases because they were restrained and left in public places.
The tied-up individuals were eventually freed and received treatment for minor injuries. It remains unclear whether they are being investigated for alleged motorcycle thefts.
Authorities are now working to identify and locate the person responsible for the incidents. Although no arrests have been made, investigators have reportedly identified two vehicles that may be connected to the vigilante’s activities.
