Another Oarfish Found In Southern Leyte Causes Fear  To Residents Of Possible Earthquake
Another oarfish was found in the coastal areas of Talisay, Libagon in Southern Leyte, which causes fear to its residents of a possible earthquake.
On Tuesday Evening (April 04, 2017), a netizen named Lovella Elejorde was able to take pictures of the oarfish spotted along the shore of Southern Leyte. The oarfish was still alive when the residents saw it, but it was already weak and eventually died after a few moment.
Two fishermen from the Libagon first saw the oarfish and it was the third oarfish spotted in the area this 2017, according to Teresa Regis, a Municipal Agriculturist Officer in Libagon Souther Leyte. Regis also said that the female oarfish was estimated to be 14.4 feet long 1.2 feet in width.
Previously, an oarfish was found in the coastal areas of Agusan del Norte, 2 days before the magnitude 6.7 magnitude earthquake devastated Surigao del Norte. The consecutive appearance of these deep-sea creatures in shallow waters was believed as an indication of an impending earthquake.
Kiyoshi Wadatsumi, a seismologist said in Japan Times that deep-sea creatures are very sensitive to any irregular movements in the sea ground. Their appearance in the shallow waters might indicate something is happening in the deep.
Many people started to believe that the numerous appearance of oarfish in the different regions in the Philippines is a sign of upcoming catastrophic calamities, due to the series of earthquakes experienced by the country during the previous months.
On Tuesday also, Batangas and other areas in Luzon including Metro Manila was struck by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake, which causes damage to some building establishments.
