Mariel Rodriguez Reveals Why Robin Padilla Is Not Yet Done in Politics
ROBIN PADILLA – TV host-actress Mariel Rodriguez finally broke her silence on the controversy surrounding her earlier remarks about Robin Padilla’s political career.
Mariel Rodriguez clarified her previous statements regarding the possible political future of her husband, Robin Padilla, saying she now fully supports the idea of him running again in the 2028 elections.
Mariel recently explained that despite earlier remarks suggesting she no longer wanted Robin to seek another public position, she still believes the senator has much more to offer as a public servant. According to the celebrity mom, there are still many sectors and communities that continue to rely on Robin’s leadership and service.
The issue stemmed from an interview in January 2026, where Mariel said she felt that some people did not deserve Robin as a public servant because of the harsh criticism directed at him and his capabilities as a senator. Her statement immediately drew backlash online, with several netizens accusing her of arrogance and conceit.
During her guest appearance on Sen. Imee Marcos’ podcast “Imee&You,” Mariel finally addressed the controversy and clarified what she truly meant by her earlier comments.
“When I said that they don’t deserve him, I’m talking about those who say bad things about him. They do not deserve him.”
“But there are so many people, the Muslims, the indigenous groups, ang daming people na umaasa sa kaniya,” Mariel clarified.
The television host emphasized that many Filipinos, especially marginalized communities, continue to benefit from Robin’s efforts and advocacy as a senator. Because of this, she admitted that she would immediately support him if he decides to continue serving the public beyond his current term.
“For me, hindi pa po tapos. For me, marami pang hindi napagtutuunan ng pansin,” said Mariel.
Her statement came as a surprise to some observers because Sen. Robin previously declared in December 2025 that he was no longer interested in running in the 2028 elections. Despite this, Mariel’s recent remarks sparked fresh discussions online about the actor-turned-politician’s possible plans and whether he may eventually reconsider another electoral bid.
