Kathryn Bernardo Movie “Elena” Faces Possible Cancellation Due To This Reason

The movie ” Elena,” starring Kathryn Bernardo, is facing uncertainty.

KATHRYN BERNARDO – Based on an online post, the movie “Elena” has been in limbo due to financial struggles.

In 2023, ABS-CBN superstar Kathryn Bernardo and esteemed director Olivia “Inang” M. Lamasan were reported to reunite for a film under Black Sheep. It is a period movie, which was seven years since they last worked together in the 2016 romantic drama “Barcelona: A Love Untold” at that time.

“Elena 1944” is a historical action-drama that will tell the story of a comfort woman set during the Japanese occupation.

However, over three years after the announcement, the film has not yet been made, and one of the biggest reasons is the financial demands of producing a period drama. In an online post, it created a buzz, as allegedly the director was hoping for the film not to be shelved because not only was it a beautiful film, but also a good acting piece for Bernardo.

The post said, “Sabi ni Inang Olive nung nakachika namin sya bago mag start yung Kanto session nila, hindi pa sure kung magagawa pa sya kasi ang laki ng budget na kailangan because it’s a period film tapos epic dahil WW2 ang setting. She’s hoping na hindi ma shelve kasi ang ganda ganda daw ng kwento & acting piece for Kathryn yung film.”

Meanwhile, Kathryn is currently doing a project with James Reid, which is their first project together. They started taping last December 2025. “Someone, Someday,” which will air on Netflix and the Kapamilya Channel, also stars Maja Salvador, Dimples Romana, Rita Avila, and Rowell Santiago.

The upcoming drama is directed by Chad Vidanes and Dolly Dulu, and its screenplay was written by Joel Mercado, Genesis Rodriguez, Camille Anne Dela Cruz, Abi Lam-Parayno, and Wilbert Christian Tan.
