The suspect in the death of Dr. Perlas has been killed.

SUSPECT – One of the suspects in the death of Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas, a health officer of one of the municipalities in Lanao del Norte, was shot by the authorities after he allegedly tried to escape an arrest in Kapatagan.

Based on a recent news report on GMA News Online, the local police expressed that Kapatagan Regional Trial Court Branch 21 Judge Alberto Quinto issued a warrant of arrest against Agapito Tamparong.

A joint team of military and police was set to serve the arrest warrant to the accused known hitman according to Lt. Col. Audie Mongao, the Army’s 15th Infantry Batallion’s commander.

Based on the news report, Tamparong allegedly tried to run away when the arresting team arrived at the area and allegedly tossed a grenade when the authorities cornered him. The authorities fired at Tamparong which led to his death.

On another recent report from the same source, it is stated that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has already been tasked by Department of Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II to conduct a probe regarding the death of the barrio doctor.

Sec. Aguirre addressed his order to NBI Dir. Dante Gierran.

Based on a previous news report, Police Chief Senior Insp. Melvin Loquinte expressed that Dr. Perlas was shot on Wednesday evening while he was riding his motorcycle on his way to Lala Town.

The said doctor was shot on the left part of his back which affected his heart according to  SPO2 Michael Patalinghug.

Based on the report, police inspector Loquinte said that those who saw the incident, at first, thought that the motorcycle driver had a heart attack.

One resident of Sapad municipality in Lanao del Norte took to social media her reaction to the incident. Princess May Sienes stated, “Superman Doctor is Dead”.

Based on the report, the resident also noted that Dr. Perlas is a “big” loss for them. The doctor has already saved lots of people according to Sienes.

The 31-year-old Dr. Perlas is the eldest of two siblings. He is a native of Batan town in Aklan Province.

Reportedly, the slain doctor was a graduate of University of the Philippines Los Baños and Western Visayas State University in Iloilo City and a Doctors to the Barrios (DTTB) program volunteer.

It was also mentioned that the doctor was a scholar of the Department of Health. His family and friends seek justice for his death.
