VP Sara Duterte Reacts After Survey Showed People Want Rodrigo Duterte Accountable

This is what VP Sara Duterte said about the survey result.

VP Sara Duterte says the desire of the majority to hold her father, Rodrigo Duterte, accountable is not useful.

In the September 24 to 30 survey, several respondents were asked how much they agree or disagree that former president Rodrigo Duterte “should be held accountable in the International Criminal Court for the killings related to illegal drugs during his administration.”

Based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey commissioned by the Stratbase Group, 50% of the respondents agreed that Duterte must face accountability for the deaths, while 32 percent disagreed, 15 percent were undecided, and 4 percent said they did not know enough to give an opinion.

1,500 adult Filipinos nationwide were interviewed and have a ±3 percent margin of error.

The survey results were released soon after the International Criminal Court (ICC) denied Duterte’s request for temporary release from detention in The Hague. He is currently on trial for alleged crimes against humanity linked to his violent anti-drug campaign.

Vice President Sara Duterte reacted to the result, and in an interview in Zamboanga City, she expressed that the result is not useful for the country. This is because her father’s trial would be held at The Hague in The Netherlands.

“It is not useful dito sa ating bansa dahil hindi naman dito sa bansa natin nangyayari ang kaso so I guess that is for the ICC court to think about if at all yan ang pinagbabasehan niyan nila,” the Vice President said.

She also refused to comment on the junked interim release appeal of the former president on medical grounds. Duterte has been detained at the ICC’s detention unit at Scheveningen Prison in The Hague since he was arrested in Manila in March 2025.
