Actress Janine Gutierrez is still grieving the loss of her “Mamita” Pilita Corrales, and this is what she felt on her first birthday without her.
This year, actress Janine Gutierrez was deep in pain as both of her grandmothers died, just days apart. National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor, known to many as the “Superstar,” but to her was simply “Mama Guy,” died, and this death was followed by Gutierrez’s paternal grandmother, Pilita Corrales. They were their beloved Mami and Mamita.
Two deaths, less than a week apart. Aunor died at the age of 71, while Corrales died at the age of 87. This year alone, she suffered two of the greatest pains she could ever have in this life, but she made sure to appear well in public. She was honest about the pain, but physically, she wanted people to see the grace to front the fame.
However, there’s just so much one could carry when it comes to emotional burden.
Recently, as she turned a year older, she marked a milestone without her Mamita for the first time, and all the while, she was deep in pain because all she could ever remember was her. She cried, remembering how she would always hear her Mamita sing the birthday song for her.
“she would always sing happy birthday in her full singing voice and it just kept playing in my head and I really couldn’t stop crying over my seafood like a baby. I don’t know what happened. but I guess that’s grief,” she wrote.
She was initially hesitant to go because someone important to her is undergoing treatment, but her family encouraged her to take the trip. She was assured that everything would be fine, and accompanying her on the trip was her boyfriend, actor Jericho Rosales.
“it’s been the toughest year but I’m just filled with gratitude for everyone who’s held mine and my family’s hand throughout everything. I’m so grateful for another year and for all the blessings,” she expressed.
