Duterte ordered not to hide the homeless during the Miss Universe 2016.
Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said in a text message that President Duterte ordered not to hide the homeless of the country.
In a recent news report of Inquirer.net, the Government confirmed that in a preparation for the 2017 Miss Universe 2017 Pageant, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo not to hide the homeless of the country.
“Ang instruction ni President (Duterte), huwag sila itago,” Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said in a text message.
(The President’s instruction was not to hide them.)
The prestigious pageant of 2017 will be held in the Philippines. It will be the third time that the Philippines will be hosting Miss Universe pageant.
The most recent one was in 1994 when Sushmita Sen from India won the much-coveted crown.
President Duterte ordered not hide street dwellers and homeless families just like what happened during the visit of Pope Francis to the country in 2015.
Wherein the homeless were allegedly hid from the pontiff.
In a previous report, this was denied by the DSWD and said that the street dwellers were brought to a government-sponsored “camping activity” in a resort in Batangas.
In a press conference in Malacañang, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo assured that the homeless will be well taken care of by the DSWD for the entire duration of the Miss Universe pageant.
“We will take care of them in a more humane way,” she said.
”(Social welfare) Secretary Judy (Taguiwalo) will take care of them, I assure you that. That’s all,” Teo added.
Furthermore, the much-awaited pageant will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
As the race for the Miss Universe 2016‘s crown has officially begun!
The Philippines Bet, Maxine Medina will be representing the country.
She said that she is confident that she can bring a back-to-back win for the country at the 65 Miss Universe pageant.
