Here’s why Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan withdrew their suit.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan withdrew the case against Cristy Fermin after the latter did this.
Last year, a cyber libel case was filed against Cristy Fermin by Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan before the Makati City Prosecutors’ Office. This occurred after Fermin alleged that the Megastar’s first daughter pawned one of her valuable items.
Last October, Cristy revealed that she lost against Sharon and Kiko, who filed five counts of libel against her. She was indicted and paid the bail amounting to Php 48,000.00 per count after receiving the letter.
Months after, the two parties reconciled. Fermin settled the cyberlibel issue with Sharon and Kiko, which prompted the couple to withdraw their complaint. They have dropped their cyberlibel complaint against the entertainment columnist after reaching an out-of-court settlement as per the statement from office of the senator. This was affirmed before the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148.
“Since the prosecution cannot proceed without the cooperation of the private complainants, Judge ruled that the case is dismissed for lack of evidence and Fermin is found not guilty,” Atty. Maria Fricela Kim stated.
This happened after Fermin issued a public apology. She expressed, “Kung nakapanakit tayo ng kalooban, marunong naman tayong humingi ng tawad.”
Meanwhile, a court previously junked the cyber libel case filed by the parents of Sarah Lahbati against Cristy and her co-hosts, Wendell Alvarez and Romel Chika. To recall, they filed Cyberlibel, Harassment, Defamation and Unjust Vexation against Cristy and her co-hosts in March 2024.
The entertainment reporter has face several cyber libel complaints, which makes her no stranger in complaints like this. But with the Megastar and her husband’s legal action, she was made to pay a bail amounting to a total of Php 240,000.00.
