Boss Toyo Scores Moonstar88’s Legendary ‘Migraine’ & ‘Torete’ Guitar
MOONSTAR88 – Moonstar88’s iconic guitar, famously used for their hit songs Migraine and Torete, has been sold to Boss Toyo.
Filipino rock band Moonstar88 recently sold the guitar used in recording their hit songs “Migraine” and “Torete” to businessman Jayson Luzadas, also known as Boss Toyo. The sale was part of a fundraising effort to support fellow musician Allan Mitchell Silonga, who is battling kidney failure and heart issues.
On February 19, Moonstar88 members Maysh Baay, Bon Sundiang, and Herbert Hernandez visited Boss Toyo’s pawn shop, accompanied by Rye Sarmiento, Bob Cañamo, and Vic Aquino of 6cyclemind. Hernandez, who is also part of 6cyclemind, led the initiative to raise funds for Silonga, the father of Blaster Silonga from Daddy’s Home and K24/7.

In addition to Moonstar88’s white electric guitar, 6cyclemind offered their “ASAP” award trophy for their best-selling 2007 album “Home,” which featured popular tracks like “Prinsesa,” “Upside Down,” and “Dinamayan.” The band initially priced the trophy at P350,000, while Moonstar88 set the starting price for their guitar at P888,888, referencing their band’s name.
During the negotiations, Hernandez demonstrated the guitar’s significance by showcasing Moonstar88’s streaming numbers and revealing that it was the first professional instrument he received. He and Baay also performed an acoustic rendition of “Migraine” for Boss Toyo.
Boss Toyo countered 6cyclemind’s trophy price with P80,000, explaining that “ASAP” is not an official awards body. He also referenced his past purchases of FAMAS and Urian trophies for similar amounts. Meanwhile, his wife, Mary Jhoy, countered Moonstar88’s guitar price at P288,888.

After several counter-offers, Hernandez proposed P700,000, which Boss Toyo negotiated down to P388,000 for both items. Eventually, they settled on P400,688 for the guitar and the trophy, with Boss Toyo noting that he previously declined purchasing Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak” guitar for the same price.
Following the sale, Moonstar88 gifted Boss Toyo a vinyl record of their latest album, “Lourdes 2088,” along with a limited edition disc of their 2012 album “This Year.” Silonga later expressed his gratitude to the bands and Boss Toyo for their generosity, thanking them for their heartfelt support during his time of need.
