Senior Citizen Arrested in Navotas for Alleged Misconduct
A senior citizen who was a former barangay tanod was arrested for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old girl in Navotas.
A 67-year-old former barangay tanod was taken into custody in Navotas after being accused of inappropriate behavior toward a five-year-old girl during her birthday celebration in October 2024.
The arrest followed a warrant issued by a Navotas court for acts of lasciviousness. The incident allegedly took place at a basketball court where the girl’s family held the party. According to reports, the accused assisted in setting up the venue, including a tent for the event.
Later that evening, around 1:00 a.m., while the child was playing, the suspect allegedly approached, carried her, and seated her on his lap. Based on the child’s account, it was during this time that inappropriate contact happened.
“Noong ala-una nang madaling araw na, habang naglalaro ‘yung bata, nilapitan ng suspek, binuhat at kinalong sa kaniyang binti and then, ayon sa salaysay ng bata, hinawakan ‘yung maselang bahagi ng bata,” Asuncion said.
The girl further claimed that the suspect repeated the act until her mother intervened. Spotting her child with the accused, the mother reportedly called her back and took her home. Afterward, the mother questioned her daughter about what transpired, leading to the disclosure of the alleged incident.
“Noong nakita ng nanay, tinawag ‘yung bata para umuwi na sila. Pag-uwi nila, tinanong na nung nanay kung anong ginawa sa kaniya at isinalaysay ng bata na ‘yun daw ang ginawa ng suspek,” Asuncion added.
However, the suspect firmly denied any wrongdoing. He explained that the child was playing on a cellphone that was resting on her thigh. When the phone slipped, he claimed he retrieved it and placed it back.
He believes the mother and child may have misunderstood his actions. The accused also added that other children at the event were his own grandchildren, emphasizing that he had no malicious intent.
Currently, the suspect remains in police custody at the Navotas station as authorities proceed with the investigation.
